Monday Morning Meanderings

Don't let that little twinkle in her eye fool you. This has to be one of the toughest kids on the planet. This is the one running around with her arm in a splint like there is no tomorrow. Because in her book that just might happen and you have to take advantage of the day or it will be gone.

Last Thursday we spent a good portion of the day at the orthopedist office. This Tuesday we get to spend another portion of a day waiting around for surgery to put a pin in that darn elbow. This kid has now blown two doctors away by matter of factly pointing to the floating bone bit glaring at us from the x-ray and telling them what was wrong with that picture. The first specialist mentioned the *S* word and a few little tears dripped down the side of my child's face. It was one of those heart wrenching moments. By the time we walked out of the second specialist's office, Shannon was all business:

"Mommy, I really don't want to have surgery. But that is what I have to do so that I can get back to gymnastics."

Uh, how old did you say you were? I am in awe of the wisdom and maturity that this child is displaying in light of having her world turned topsy turvey. And yes, this stinker is insisting on attending every practice she can and doing what she can and she isn't complaining too much that she is unable to do round off back handsprings to her hearts delight. And yes, I did drive for an hour to a meet on Saturday that she was unable to compete in, because she felt that she needed to support her team mates, which she did with a huge smile on her face and that darn twinkle in her eye

The hat is adorable. That fabulous indominateable spirit will really serve Shannon well in life. Kudos to you Shannon!

Mercy... what Julie said!

She is one seriously awesome person.

Wow, what a girl! The world is definitely her oyster!

I love that picture. Those freckles are adorable. She is just so Shannon! Nothing gets her down for long.

What a great little girl you have there. I do hope it doesn't have to be surgery!

Good for her!

We've been there. My older daughter took a bad fall in gymnastics in high school, had foot surgery, and spent four months altogether on crutches, supporting her team all the way. Go team go!

Kids! Amazing non?

She is a beauty...in more ways than one. Her spirit is amazing and I know that you know that! What a special person as all of your children are.
(do you not think, that her parents had something to do with it?)
I will be thinking about her and her courage and determination.
Best to you..e
