No, I didn't eat the gummi bears.
Really, now?
Really, now?

Here's Harley testing for her red belt tonight. I only got to see part of her test since I had to control and feed other kids. But what I saw looked pretty darn good. It's been forever since she tested. She should be getting her black belt sometime in the next decade if she works at at, lol.

Harley's Birthday Socks are finally done. They were done toe up in a a garter rib pattern (1 rnd K2P2, 2 rnds K) with 2x2 ribbed cuffs and shart row garter stitch heels and toes. I just love the fact that some patterns are so ingrained that to me, they consist of one sentence and not pages of text or charts.
Here's a close up:

For Harley's 14th birthday, she chose one of the family favorite restaurants, Shanghai Garden. We always order Hand Shaved Noodles with chicken, Strawberry Beef (kid's favorite) and Pepper Salted Squid (my favorite).
Afterward, we crossed the street to spend some time at Kinokuniya Bookstore in Uwajimaya Village. I love that bookstore. Since Uwajimaya is celebrating their anniversary, they are having a 10% off sale. So I had to get a book. HAD TO. This book refused to let me go. I suppose to describe it, you would say it is Barbara G. Walker meets Cookie A. I can't wait to start playing with some stitch patterns.

So from us, Harley got a cute top that she wanted, a pair of socks, and a concert ticket to see Chiodos at the Showbox this weekend with a friend. I can't believe I am now the mother of a 14 year old. It scares me. I am getting old. I don't feel too much more than 14 myself.

Pretty sunset this evening, wasn't it? I snapped this photo just in time. In the time it took me to change lenses to the telephoto, ithe pink in the clouds was gone.
Oh, and earlier today, Harley and I went to the grocery store. When we returned home, we found Kassie and Lexa in the yard picking dandelions. Kassie was wearing her pink princess bathing suit. Darling Lexa was wearing nothing but a Costco-sized Tostitos corn chip bag. I asked her if Daddy knew she was wearing an empty chip bag. She told me he did. I told her to get in the house and put her clothes back on.
Mommy: Are you aware that your youngest daughter is in the front yard wearing nothing but a Tostitos bag?
Daddy: Yeah.
Mommy: And you didn't see anything wrong with that?
Daddy: No, she's dressed.
Mommy: In a TOSTITOS BAG.
Daddy: She came in and said her bathing suit was wet and she had to take it off, but she wasn't allowed to be outside naked. So she grabbed the bag and put it on. Then she ran outside.
I so wish I had been able to get a picture of her wearing the bag.

Harley's new haircut.

Chace being a goof with his new haircut.
She did it. She did it again. The Little Darling decided she needed bangs, so she did a little self-styling.

This is my not-so-girly-girl. She isn't as pink and frilly as Kassie. Lexa's favorite color is blue. But the child has a thing for art, scissors, style and shoes. Well, she has a thing for boots, actually. She is locally known as "the little girl with the boots". Her latest acquisition is a pair of hot pink cowboy boots.
Here she is modeling the boots at Aunt Anne's on Christmas Eve - the outfit is complete with chocolate smudge on face, Blue Bear, broom horse, cowboy hat and yellow hapi coat from Japan.

She promised me many times she wouldn't ever ever cut her hair again. Ever. At least this time she seems to have done a decent job of it.
We had a snow day today. We got several inches of snow that never managed to melt. The kids are hoping for another snow day, but I am not so sure. It is supposed to melt off tomorrow. In all the years we have lived in this house, I have never seen it snow this much, especially this early in the year.

As promised, here are some pics of Chace. He escorted Kassie home on the bus.

Okay, since it has been forever since I have uploaded any new photos, here you go. Today is the first day back to school. I can't believe it. What is even weirder is that I read an email from my dad this morning and my brother is starting high school. That freaks me out because I remember changing his diapers and feeding him cereal and having him puke on me, then a couple years after that trying to decipher what he was saying when he was speaking Japanese to me. He would look at me like I was totally stupid when I didn't understand him. It was pretty funny. And I think Alyssa starts 7th grade.
Okay, my other brother Tim is starting high school as well. And Nick? This is his senior year. (It would be cool if he went to school at UW - hint, hint) Too. Damn. Weird. I feel old. And Graham has a computer nerd job now. Changes are in the air for my family. *sigh*
Okay, so Harley started 7th grade. Brace yourselves - my daughter wore a skirt to school today. Freaky, no? Well, let me say that it was a black denim skirt and she had leggings on with skulls down the sides. And those armwarmers? Those aren't white polka dots. Those are skulls. And yes, the Converse high tops complete the ensemble.
She looked so cute! She is so her mother's daughter. I was having flashbacks to my own 7th grade attire. We could have shared clothes. Okay, so here she is:

And Here is Kassie at the restaurant. We went to have Pho for lunch with Auntie Rem.

And here she is at school walking to her classroom. Yeah, that is Lexa's head in the way. We got to the classroom and Kassie talked to the teacher, told her how to spell her name and sat down to play with blocks. When I got done chatting with the teacher, I said goodbye to Kassie and told her to have a good day. She looked at me, smiled and said "Okay. Bye momma!"

And here is Lexa having a fit in front of the school because we were leaving Kassie. She didn't quite understand why she couldn't stay with Kassie, and why I couldn't leave her there with Kassie if we weren't all going home. I had to bribe her with the promise of a popsicle to get her in the car. She fell asleep on the way home, and she's in bed napping right now.

It was hard with Lexa wailing away (my eyes started to tear up), but I didn't cry when we left the school. Are you proud?
I am sure you are wondering where the heck Chace is. Well, true to form, he wouldn't get out of bed until 20 minutes before his bus came and then he dragged his feet eating and getting himself together. So he missed the bus and I had to drive him to school. I was rushing around so much trying to get him out the door that I forgot to take a picture of him. I will have to take one of him as he gets off the bus this afternoon.

Here are just some recent pictures of the kids. I got pretty fed up with the lying sexist pig bastards at work, so I quit. My boss freaked out a little, offered me a 20%+ raise, and freaked harder when I turned him down. Since Nathan bought me a new camera and I will be taking the summer off, I will have more time for kids and pictures and knitting and all the things that make my life worth living.
2 more days of work before my vacation begins!! :-D

Yeah, I know there is an extra of Chace, but after I originally posted this, I noticed all the other kids had closeups except him.

I was out in the back hanging up laundry. Chace came out and hid in the white laundry basket. The three girls had all just gotten out of the shower and decided to see what I was doing. They saw Chace and just had to gang up on him. Harley sat on the top of the basket so he couldn't get out while the two little girls poked him with sticks. They are very lucky he is such a good natured boy.

I will get more of the other two kids soon.
Here's the Axe Kick

And here's Harley breaking a board:

Harley is now an Orange Belt!!! Woohoo!!!
